AEO Glossary

Claude

Claude is Anthropic's family of AI assistants that answer conversationally and, with web access enabled, can retrieve and cite live sources in their responses.

BBurke Atkerson

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant. It answers in natural language across a wide range of tasks, and when given web access it can retrieve current pages and cite them — acting as an answer engine whose responses can surface and credit your content.

ClaudeBot is Anthropic's training crawler; user-initiated web fetches use separate agents. For AEO the fundamentals hold regardless of engine: serve crawlable HTML and write extractable, self-contained answers, since that's what any retrieval-grounded assistant can lift and attribute. Claude is also widely used through its API inside other products, so being citable content benefits you across every tool built on it.

Example. A user asks Claude with web access to compare two project-management tools; it fetches current pages and summarizes them with sources. A clear, evidenced comparison page is exactly the kind of source that gets pulled into that answer.
